Mapping 

Accurate mapping is the foundation of any comprehensive landscape management or monitoring project. Flying a modified Cessna Skyhawk aircraft with a custom sensor mount, we fill the broad gaps between the low altitude capabilities of drones, the low resolution of publicly available satellite imagery, and the high costs of conventional high altitude mapping aircraft.


Our orthophotography is captured at between 3” and 6” pixel resolution, allowing for analysis of extremely fine detail such as vegetation type and density, river bank composition and stability, or animal and equipment tracks in snow or substrates.


Kestrel also creates 3D Digital Elevation Models using Structure from Motion software which provides accurate elevation data for every pixel within the mapped area. Although SfM lacks the foliage-penetration capabilities of LiDAR, the orthoimagery and digital elevation models are collected in a single cost effective mission and delivered within a week of the project flight.
